So, here's a big shock to followers of certain diets out there. FAT IS NECESSARY IN DIETS! Granted, only some fats are good for you, but you do need fat to live and live healthily.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids are one of those important fats you need in your diet, and here's why:

  • Omega Fatty-Acids control blood clotting and build cell membranes.

  • They provide protection against heart disease as well as benefitting others, including stroke, cancer, IBS, and autoimmune diseases.

  • They are major source of anti-inflammatory, which are highly important for people with chronic inflammation, injuries and those who train often.

Omega-3 Fatty Acids can only be absorbed through the food we eat as our bodies cannot produce them.

What Foods have Omega-3 Fatty Acids?

There are two types of Omega-3s, alpha-linolenic acid (found in oils, flaxseed, greens, and walnuts) and eicosapentaeoic acid (found in fatty fish).

An easy way to increase the amount of Omega-3 Fatty Acids in your diet is to aim to have one serving of fatty acid rich food per day, whether you add flaxseed to your morning oatmeal, make your own salad dressings with healthy oils, or via supplements.

If that wasn't enough shock for you for one day, let me share with you a little about Omega-6 Fatty Acids...

Again, these are acids that we have to eat, as our bodies cannot produce them, but they actually LOWER LDL cholesterol!

Some great ideas to incorporate this into your diet today would be:

  • Slice of avocado toast

  • Salmon salad

  • Switch to coconut or alive instead of margarine or butter.
